Highchair help!

Okay, So I still don't have a highchair for Maisey, in part because she hardly eats solid food, but also because I don't have any idea which highchair to buy. There are just too many choices. So all you moms out there, I need your help. I need advice as to what highchairs you like, don't like and why. Also, any features that are must haves in your opinion would be nice to know as well.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Don't spend too much! The kids end up trashing it. :)

I have a Graco that I got 7 years ago with Curtis and it has lasted. It also has a washable cover (very important) and when the cover is removed it still has a cushy plastic cover that is easy to clean. Another thing to think about is to make the tray will fit in your sink to wash it.

Good Luck.

Hi Lisa!Congrats on your triathlon! That's awesome!I am not the best person to ask about a highchair since we never really got one. In our old house, we didn't have the space for one, so we just got one of those kinds that you strap to your chair...ours is The First Years brand. It has worked well for us, since it is adjustable, it has a removeable seat cover so you can wash it, and when they get older, you can remove the tray and just have them sit right at the table like a booster. Plus it is transportable if necessary. It isn't fancy at all, but it is affordable and it has worked for us.Good luck!

I say SKIP the high chair and buy a booster seat with a tray attachment. They love being at the table with you and you don't lose any space in your kitchen. We had both, and both our kids preferred the booster. Soooooo much less expensive and easier to move and store!

I think they are easier to clean too. The one we have actually folds up kind of like a brief case so you can take it places. I never used that feature, but it's a nice option. Great for traveling.

My mom got an Eddie Bauer one that is wood with a plastic tray and it really looks nice in the kitchen. I totally want to steal it every time I go to Vegas. I agree on the booster, but the only downfall is the mess moves to the kitchen chairs instead of the highchair. I'm sure you are better at clean-up than myself, but the chair our 2 year old KC sits in is a bit sticky. We all avoid it.
I love that you did a triathlon too!

I have never bought one. I got one of the booster seat ones with the tray, and I love it, because it grows with them. It is hard plastic and the tray goes in the dishwasher, and is very east to clean up.

I am with everyone else. We just have the one that attaches to a chair. We got it cause we were living in a small apartment and there wasnt room for a big highchair. But I have loved it. I bought just a cheap fold up chair so I didnt ruin a nice chair.

I really like our new Graco one. We had a Graco hand-me-down that was fine for Katelyn in MD but the seat belts had been removed and when baby Sarah came along I thought it might be nice to keep her inside the chair. Katelyn did great with the chair booster later on and I have seen plenty of people love the table attacher seats. Back to why I love our new one...it's portable for later when she wants to be in on the action of a playgroup but I am trying to not have her clobbered, it folds up SUPER flat for storage and it doesn't take away an adult chair when we have company...voila, my two cents.

i had both, chair attached and full sized. i actually liked the full sized better. it just seemed better when they are smaller. the things i liked; reclining seat in case they fell asleep, double trays in case one was dirty and i was lazy i could use the other, height adjustment on the seat, machine washable seat cover, and make sure it has straps! you can get a good deal on craigslist or at a garage sale and try out both types! ps congrats on the triathalon, that is so COOL. and you made me laugh out loud from your last comment on my blog!

we did the booster seat with a tray as well. a little more affordable, and seems more toddler friendly. we don't have anything now, as i didn't bring our booster seat, and asher has taken to eating a little, playing, then coming back every once in a while to eat, and it is driving me crazy. but it does seem a little weird to put sayer in a booster, it seems like he needs something softer with recline, but his bumbo or his carseat works well.

oh, i think our booster was safety first, the one that folds up and has a carrying strap.

i like the booster as well I used a envenflo high chair for awhile and didn't like it at all the graco one i have used is a lot better, my booster seat reclined so you can still put a little one in it

We got a little fisher price one that clips on to the dining room chair. (more like a booster I guess) We used it for Luke for 18 months and it is still as good as when we bought it. It is little and stores really easy and you can take it with you anywhere you go. It is dishwasher safe too. only 25 bucks. I would get that if I were you.

I have used the same chair that Kerry and many others mentioned. Until this house, we have lived in homes with small kitchens and didn't have the space, or the money and those chairs are like $20. Highchairs take up so much space and I hate the cloth cover - I know myself too well and I know that I would not get around to washing it as often as I should. I like the good old plastic that can be easily wiped down after the meal!

Like Leslie said the Graco ones are really good. For us though we used one you put in a regular chair and have used it for both the boys. Cons-it doesn't tilt back when they fall asleep. Pros-it comes completley apart and goes in the diswasher. Plus I think they are $15??

Hey Lisa- I'm glad we have your blog now so we can stay more connected :) Maisey is beautiful! I can't believe how big she's gotten! As for your friend here at Columbia, would her name be Morgan Olson by any chance? She lives in our building and we've already gotten to hang out with them a little :) Let me know if that's her- that would be really funny!

My two cents on the high chair question: we got the space-saving kind that you strap onto a regular chair. I really like it so far...both the seat and the tray tilt back if needed and it's supposed to convert to a booster seat later on. We got it for $50 at Target-oh and the tray is dishwasher safe (which only ticks me off since we no longer have a dishwasher in our closet-sized kitchen!).

Hey Lisa, I also have a First Years convertible seat that you strap to a chair. It's been great with Sonny. I also have a Peg Perego top of the line. They are both good. The one that goes on the chair is nice because it reclines & you can wash the seat cover & tray can go in dishwasher. Also takes up less space. Just go with what you like. You'll make it work. Good news about Twilight.

Holy Cow. Who knew women could have so much to say about high chairs? I just wish there was a way that our babies could eat in a disposable cage so that we didn't have to wipe up the floor and walls every time they ate.
